Our first creative writing workshop for the seniors at Lester Housing begins this Friday. It will be an eight-session workshop on poetry. There is always the energy of possibilities at workshop beginnings, especially as participants enter the room.
I remember first telling some of the seniors at Lester about the upcoming poetry workshop. One in particular was so excited about it that she immediately left the room to get a copy of a poetry collection she has carried with her from home to home since her youth. In it, she had bookmarked her favorite poem: “I Wandered Lonely as a Cloud,” by William Wordsworth (also known as “The Daffodils”). That page from her book is pictured above.
The seniors will be writing all types of poetry, and the workshop will culminate in a chapbook of their work and a reading, too. Stay tuned for more updates. In the meantime, what poem has influenced you?
